This month, the SportsCare and Physiotherapy family came together for our annual Launch Day, held in the Glasshouse at Pialligo Estate.
Launch Day is our chance to take a step back from our clients and focus on ourselves for a day. We reflected on 2020 as a team and our Partners shared their thoughts on the challenges and positives that came from last year. We then had guest speakers, both clients, join us to talk about how SportsCare and Physiotherapy has impacted their lives.
Louise Roantree, one of the SportsCare and Physiotherapy Partners, said that the day was an important chance for staff to talk openly and reflect on what was a tough year for many.
“Our Launch Day is an opportunity for the SportsCare and Physiotherapy team to meet with new and old faces and to connect with one another, which was imperative after the year of 2020,” said Louise.
“We take this time to reflect on the events of the year that has gone by and share our goals for the year ahead. This year was humbling reviewing the journey of 2020 and how the team grew stronger together. We are now looking forward to working on our goals for 2021.”
“The Partners wanted to celebrate the recognition of allied health being seen as an essential service and the team behind the services we offer.”
One of the guest speakers on the day was Ben, a client of SportsCare and Physiotherapy who shared his story about an injury to his thumb which led to some pretty serious complications. Ben is an essential worker who continued working throughout 2020 and he spoke about how the SportsCare team have been ‘essential in his world’, allowing him to persevere through the pandemic.
In true COVID-era style, our second guest speaker Kyle shared his story via a pre-recorded video. Kyle spoke about the importance of education, exercise, support, and how physiotherapy and exercise physiology from our team has been essential in allowing him to avoid surgery on his complex back injury and knee pain.
The themes of connection, support, and motivation from our guest speakers was inspiring, and it was great to hear the perspectives of people who experience our services from the outside.
The team also relished the opportunity for team bonding on the day. In teams, we shared and discussed the challenges we faced in 2020 while enjoying great coffee and delicious food. Some of the themes talked about were the reduction in our clients and workload, uncertainty, meeting hygiene standards around masks and sanitiser, the challenges of raising small children during the pandemic, and much more.
In a challenging year, it was refreshing to hear about all the positives that emerged for our staff. Some observations shared within our team included how nice it was to be able to spend more time at home with family, and the strength and resilience shown by the whole SportsCare team and the business as a whole being able to support other local businesses.
At the end of the day, it was fantastic to see the strength of the team and what we can achieve when we work together.
Looking ahead, we’re excited by new growth opportunities coming in 2021, such as expanding the services we can offer to Canberrans. We want to reset and re-balance so we can enter the year with our best foot forward.
