Join SportsCare in supporting FARE at the City2Surf

July 29, 2024

SportsCare Canberra is pleased to support the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) in the world’s largest fun run – City2Surf. Running and walking are fantastic ways to get active and relieve stress. But did you know that reducing or stopping your alcohol intake can really help improve your health and wellbeing?

FARE is a not-for-profit organisation with a vision for an Australia free from alcohol harms. Every day, people across Australia are negatively impacted by alcohol, through injury, violence, mental ill-health, chronic disease, family violence and disadvantage. Far too many Australians die because of alcohol.

FARE works with others to build their community of people wanting to create change, raise community awareness of alcohol harm, advocate for policy change aimed at preventing alcohol-related harm, and increase accountability of companies that fuel harm.

On Sunday 11 August 2024, FARE will be participating in the City2Surf to raise awareness about alcohol harm and support community-led change, and we are too!  When you walk, jog or run alongside FARE at City2Surf, you’re helping support alcohol harm prevention across Australia.

This year, FARE is fundraising for their storytelling project ‘Voices of Change’ which supports Australians to share their experience of alcohol harm to raise awareness and create change.

SportsCare is backing FARE’s efforts by fundraising, and we have even entered our own team! Our Principal Physiotherapist, Louise Roantree, is excited to be involved herself this year.

“This year I have decided to participate in the City2Surf to raise awareness about the safe use of alcohol and the harm it can cause. I’m out starting training right now, and even my stage four arthritis in one of my knees isn’t going to stop me from participating and having a great time,” said Louise.

“We hope to hear from you if you’re participating too. And if not, we hope that you will support us via our fundraising efforts. We are most grateful for any funds you can provide to in support,” Louise concluded.

You can help us fundraise by donating or signing up for the team.
